Certificate in Advanced English for Young Tourism Professionals-Advance (no schedule)


Certificate in Advanced English for Young Tourism Professionals is a programme that students can rely on to cover the complete range and depth of language and skills needed to communicate effectively and confidently especially in the tourism and hospitality industries. There are three levels:Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced.

This programme aims to develop the student's appropriate use of English in terms of accuracy, facility and fluency. It serves as a preparatory course designed to prepare non-English speakers for a successful entry into the undergraduate degree programs if they have not satisfied the English language requirement.

Learners are introduced to English grammar and vocabulary through the four core competencies in speaking, listening, writing and reading which are conceptualised within a thematic interactive approach framework and this forms the structure of the course as shown below:


After successful completion of this level, students will have a good grasp of academic English. Learners will be focusing on foundation building in vocabulary use in the tourism and hospitality industries.

With strong integration of critical analysis, students will be able to develop strategies to achieve higher learning. It serves as a preparatory course designed to prepare non-English speakers for a successful entry into the certificate and diploma programs.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

  2. read and interpret some authentic materials on complex subjects
  3. identify the significance of English language proficiency on living and working environment
  4. demonstrate full confidence in communicating effectively in a variety of formal and informal contexts
  5. respond appropriately to oral interactions in a range of situations
  6. understand interview dynamics
  7. handle difficult interview questions
  8. condense a large amount of information into a short, accessible format
  9. demonstrate ability to make an effective presentation
  10. write a summary of 80 words
  11. make a plan, do a research and write an essay
  12. apply the principles of effective essay development

Entry Requirement

For new students who has completed secondary school and a TMIS English Placement Test score of 71-90 marks

Students are assessed through different modes of assessments including classroom participation, group or individual project work, oral communication assessment and final examination. Each mode of assessment carries different weightages.


Students will progress to next level upon passing the Final Assessment of each level. On completion and passing of the Level 3 (Advanced), the Certificate in Advanced English for Young Tourism Professionals Level 3(Advanced) will be awarded by TMIS.
